Summer Associate Program

Our Summer Associate Program

Kamlet Reichert’s Summer Associate Program offers the real work experience of working in a top-notch law firm environment with top-notch clients and projects. We believe our firm and our Summer Associate Program are unique and extraordinary because we offer a great work atmosphere with a friendly, open door environment and the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience during a 10-week summer program focused on providing you with exposure to all our practice groups.

Summer Associate Hiring Process

Each fall attorneys from our firm visit top schools around the country in order to meet and speak with exceptional, energetic students that may be interested in working for our unique growing firm. The schools through which we anticipate conducting on-campus recruiting in the fall of 2009 are listed here. Students attending any of the schools listed are encouraged to submit their resumes through their school’s on-campus recruiting process. Students that attend other schools may submit their resumes directly to us at the address listed.

Qualified Candidates are Called Back to the Firm

After visiting the schools each fall, our Recruiting Committee meets to discuss the qualified candidates that may best fit with our firm. We invite those candidates to meet with a variety of attorneys in all of our practice groups. We want the candidates to truly understand the energetic, entrepreneurial and synergistic culture of our firm. In order for students to get to know us, we encourage students to ask many questions of all of the attorneys with our firm with whom they meet.

Our Summer Associate Program is Our Primary Hiring Vehicle

Following call-back meetings, our Recruiting Committee again meets to discuss the candidates we wish to extend offers. We base the number of second year Summer Associates we make offers to on our anticipated need for associates the year following the summer the candidates work for us (which is two years out from the time of the interview). Consequently, each second year Summer Associate has his/her own chance to receive a permanent offer of employment following their summer of work. We believe this approach allows our Summer Associates to collaborate in an open and friendly manner, much like how the rest of our attorneys work together.
Students that receive offers will be notified by one of the attorneys on the Recruiting Committee.

Working as a Summer Associate

If you find Kamlet  Reichert is the place for you and we extend you an offer to be a Summer Associate, the summer program lasts 10 weeks. During the summer, we try to provide you with a “real world” experience. You will receive real client work from all five of our core practice groups – Real Estate and Public Finance, Corporate and Securities, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, Litigation and Communications, Internet and Intellectual Property – on an “as needed” basis (i.e. there is no formal rotation between groups; instead, attorneys provide you assignments). We provide mentors for each Summer Associate to help answer questions, assist with balancing workload, adjust to law firm life, assist with social integration and provide guidance throughout the summer.  We believe that continual, constructive feedback is integral in your learning experience during the summer. In addition to your mentor, all the attorneys – partners, senior associates, junior associates and special counsel—are all available to answer questions and discuss issues with you. Kamlet Reichert is truly an “open door” firm.

Great Clients Deserve Great Work

If you show the initiative and the talent, more responsibility and work will be given to you. As the summer progresses, so will your experience level. We have great clients that any firm would be proud to serve. Consequently, the level and quality of our work must excel as well. Therefore, we look for candidates that have the ability to handle the responsibility and show the initiative to take on work and understand complex issues for our clients. Many times new associates are asked to handle cases or issues that at other firms would only be given to a very senior attorney. We encourage our younger attorneys to get involved and take on responsibility early in order to enhance their career. Of course, we provide support to our new attorneys and assist them with their professional development.

We Have Fun Too

Because the work that you will receive during the summer is actual client work, there are real deadlines and timeframes within which it must be completed. Therefore, we need our Summer Associates to work full days and sometimes late nights. However, because it is a core firm value for our employees to maintain a balanced life, we do have fun during the summer (as well as the rest of the year). Typical firm events include a picnic, baseball games and dinners during the summer. We also have one fantastic holiday party each year, as well as a Halloween party and Thanksgiving Feast.
During the summer, we encourage you to get to know us and truly understand what it is like to be an attorney with Kamlet Reichert.

Offers of Regular Employment

If during the summer you find you enjoyed the fun, energetic, entrepreneurial aspects of our firm and the firm has found you and your work to be acceptable, we generally make offers of full-time employment immediately following the completion of the 10-week summer.  We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including a 401(K) match program.

Hiring of Third Year Students
