Kamlet Shepherd Elects Barry A, Schwartz as Partner; Adds Seven Attorneys to Firm's Practice Groups
Denver, Colo., September 6, 2007 –Kamlet Shepherd & Reichert , LLP today announced the election of Barry A. Schwartz as partner and chair of the Appellate practice area of the Litigation group, and the hiring of seven attorneys to the firm’s Litigation; Corporate and Securities; Real Estate and Project Finance; and Environment, Energy and Resources practice groups..
The firm has added steadily to its roster of attorneys, including three in Litigation: Elizabeth J. Peros and Aimee H. Wagstaff, both associates, and John D. Mereness, senior associate. Two associates were added to Kamlet Shepherd’s Corporate and Securities group: Mary E. Carter and Hannah M. Wanebo. Steven L. Hill has been hired as an associate in Real Estate and Project Finance group and Beth H. Regas has been hired as a senior associate in Environment, Energy and Resources.

Barry Schwartz As chair of the Appellate practice area, Schwartz will provide hands-on strategic direction to all of the firm’s appeals, in both state and federal courts. In addition, his practice includes commercial litigation, employment disputes, trade secret and non-compete litigation. He has extensive experience in large contract disputes and business torts, representing large corporate clients as well as individuals. Schwartz has handled cases ranging from design and utility patent litigation to federal criminal appeals, including a high profile federal habeas corpus case.
Schwartz, who is admitted to practice before all Colorado courts, the United States Supreme Court and the Tenth, Fourth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal, has won three appeals this year. Most recently he won an important appeal in from the Colorado Court of Appeals in which the Court of Appeals addressed the enforceability of non-compete and employee non-solicitation agreements. The case sets a precedent for companies that employ people in Colorado, and substantially clarifies Colorado corporate law. Schwartz joined Kamlet Shepherd in 2005.
Elizabeth Peros As a member of the Kamlet Shepherd Litigation group, Peros’ practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation disputes involving complex commercial transactions, contracts, real estate and employment. Previously, she clerked for two Denver District Court judges and graduated with a juris doctor degree from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
Aimee Wagstaff Wagstaff’s practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation. She has experience in construction easements, assessment of litigation costs against municipalities, land use and zoning, planning regulations and city ordinances. She received her J.D. from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
John Mereness As a senior member of the litigation group, Mereness handles all manner of commercial and construction litigation, including construction contract negotiations and complex multi-million dollar construction arbitrations. He has significant experience with contractors, developers and subcontractors in lien foreclosures, change order disputes, delay claims and bonding claims. As a former partner of a litigation practice law firm in Denver, he amassed significant time in the courts, writing nine appellate briefs and conducting five oral arguments. In addition, he has substantial experience in jury and bench trials. He graduated with a juris doctor degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and is licensed to practice in Colorado and Texas.
Mary Carter Carter is a member of the Corporate and Securities group at Kamlet Shepherd, assisting clients in a wide array of corporate matters. Prior to Kamlet Shepherd, Carter served as a law clerk in the Colorado Court of Appeals. She graduated with a juris doctor degree from the University of Oregon School of Law.
Hannah Wanebo Wanebo is a member of the Kamlet Shepherd Corporate and Securities group. Her practice centers on entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital and private equity financings. She comes to the firm after serving as a judicial law clerk in the Colorado Supreme Court and as a clerk in Boulder District Court. She graduated with a juris doctor degree from the University of Colorado School of Law.
Steven Hill As an associate in the Real Estate and Project Finance group, Hill’s practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, including leasing for office, retail and mixed-use developments. His clients include landlords and tenants. Prior to coming to Kamlet Shepherd, he worked for the largest drive-up water vending company in the United States. Hill received his juris doctor degree from the University of Colorado School of Law.
Beth Regas Regas’ practice focuses on environmental regulatory and compliance issues, including the Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. She has substantial experience in environmental litigation with a particular emphasis on the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and related state laws concerning landfill closure and remediation. She has worked with the Environmental Protection Agency and state environmental agencies on behalf of client compliance with local, state and federal environmental statutes and regulations. Regas graduated with a juris doctor degree from Vermont Law School.
